Visiting Mont St Michel with a motorhome or campervan- cafe parking Walking to Mont St Michel We decided to stretch our legs and the dog needed a run, so we walked from the cafe along the dyke and up towards the island. It was a lovely walk and one I highly recommend. We got about halfway in an hour before turning back.

Mont-Saint-Michel continued to hold prisoners until 1863, when influential French figures like Victor Huge campaigned for its closure. Once it was shut down, its 650 prisoners were transferred to other locations, and the abbey was rented by a bishop. It is a physical journey. The tour guide at Mont Saint Michel was also very thorough and did a great job explaining the history and significance of the monastery. He described it as a pilgrimage of salvation for many pilgrims. It is a real marvel from a religious and reflective perspective. There is a lot to see and absorb at Mont Saint Michel.
